About Us

Lou Gehrig Day is an annual ALS awareness event that is celebrated across Major League Baseball (MLB) every June 2 in honor of the legendary Yankees first baseman who passed away from the disease in 1941. Meadowlark Media’s Kate Fagan and Tom Haberstroh have been founding members of the Lou Gehrig Day committee, a grassroots campaign that helped establish the inaugural day in 2021. Fagan lost her father to ALS in 2019 and Haberstroh’s mother was diagnosed in 2017. ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a 100-percent fatal neurodegenerative disease for which there is no cure or effective treatment. Lou Gehrig Day seeks to both spread awareness about the disease and pay tribute to Gehrig’s legacy.
